1972 Chevy El Camino V8

We have a 72 El Camino, turns on just fine and stays on. But, when it comes to turning it off, we can't. Even if we lock the ignition and remove the key. We thought it was the ignition switch and replaced it. But, it only fixed the problem temporarily. We are once again having problems shutting the car off.

Hi 72 chevy, Welcome to 2carpros and TY for the donation

Check if the primary ignition circuit wire is shorted to the power input on the ignition switch wiring if not could also be the idle speed is too high and the throttle plate is not closed completely causing it to run-on/diesel
