hi i have a 1996 chevy corsica and when i put it in reverse i notice it makes a a pretty big thud, other then that switching into any other gear it doesnt bang also when driving i dont feel the gears slipping but i do feel a slight push, i dont know if any of this is normal due to the fact that the car is old i only had it about 5 months and never really noticed till it was pointed out to me and i cant stop thinking about it. please give me some insite

HI there,

A thump when selecting can be a number of things, i would like it to be a sticky shift valve that is building up a bit of pressure before it moves, get the transmission inspected by a trans specialist as they will have all the gear needed to test this completely, if you let it go something may fail and that will cost big $$$$

Inspect the driveline universal joints and your curb idle speed could be too high causing the clunking noise.

It sounds like your motor mounts are broke or the torque strut is bad causing the engine to rock back and forth when going in gears.
