The blower just stopped working. I checked the fuse with it not blown. I did get it to work when I pulled the heater control unit, unplugged and replugged the fan switch, worked for 1 week then stopped again. I figured it was the unit and got a replacement and it still didn't work. Now some people are telling me it's the blower motor resistor. Need some help here!!!

Hello,

It sounds like you may have a blower motor that is out or fuse # 41. Here are two guides that will help test the fuse and the blower motor with the fuse location and how to change the blower motor in the diagrams below.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-a-car-fuse

and

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/blower-fan-motor-works-on-high-speed-only

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.

Hi lg4jacksdown,

Thank you for the donation.

Problem seems to be due to an intermittent power failure. I have sent the schematic and diagniostic files to you. However it must be noted that since problem is intermittent, the test might not be accurate and some wiggling test is required, ie wiggle wire connectors to confirm the terminals are secure.

while the fan is blowing during either heat or AC the fan stops working on allsettings with the exception of high. the fan will start working again later on the lower settings, could it be a bad resister or do I need to replace the switch assembly?

check to see if power is going to resistor when this happens, if it does replace the resistor. also check for hot wire harness it may be heating up and losing contact

If you're testing for signal arriving at the resister, it's a ground signal that you're looking for, not power. The motor receives constant 12v.

Very good chance that the blower resistor is bad. Check for power at the resistor going into the resistor and then at the maotor to confirm. The high setting bypasses the resistor.

Electrical problem
2005 Chevy Colorado Engine Size unknown Two Wheel Drive Automatic 56000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I have a 2005 Chev. Colorado Extreme light duty p/u. The blower motor for the a/c and heater has a 4 speed operating switch. When I set the blower motor switch to position 1, 2, &/or 3, the heater - a/c blower motor doesn't work. The blower motor switch turns the blower motor on in position 4 (highest speed) only. I have checked the ground cable to make sure it is grounded good and I have check all plugs to make sure everything is plugged in good.

What do you suggest?

Test the blower motor resistor that's okay -problem is coming from the HVAC control module.

It's probably the cable assembly (gray connector) located directly below the glove compartment storage on the passenger side. It's a known problem and usually is the result of the passenger's foot hitting the cable and causing the wire to short out. If you disconnect the cable and reconnect it, it'll usually work for a while (until it gets hit by a foot).

Can the blower motor be maintenanced, such as lubricated, or will it need to be replaced?

Thanks!.

Hi Docbunn
Sorry fan motor is not serviceable.Sounds like a bushing running dry so replacement is necessary. It is located passenger side underdash in air plenum. It helps to remove glove box.
Let me know if you need any help

Should be under the rh side of the dash, below the glove box, near the blower motor. It will more than likely have a 5-6 pin red connector body. Just FYI, if it has not been diagnosed fully, often times what happens is a poor connection at the resistor connector results in heat damage to the terminal, connector body, and resistor. It may need a wiring repair as well. Was very common on the H3 hummer, which is on the same platform as colorado/canyon.

This is a pretty common issue. The main reason a blower motor only works on high is because the blower motor resistor has failed. I would recommend replacing that part, and that should take care of your issue.

Heater problem

You didn't have the 3.5 motor on the drop down that's what I got. My heater fan started out ticking when you run it on low, the other speed you didn't hear it . Now it has started doing it in the second speed to. Is it the fan motor if so how hard is it to change and where is? thank you

I have a 2004 Chevy Colorado and the air condition started only blowing on high about a month ago settings 1 2 and 3 would blow intermittent at first than stopped blowing all together. Today it stopped blowing on high as well setting 4. What could be the problem. The AC compressor is coming on, but no air is blowing through the vents. Could this be a relay problem or a blower motor resistor malfuntion? Please advise.

it is a blower resistor.here is a bulletin with part numbers.Subject: Blower Motor Inoperative In Any One or More Blower Speed

Models: 2004-2006 Chevrolet Colorado

2004-2006 GMC Canyon Blower motor inoperative in one or more blower speeds. This concern is due to a loose connection at the blower motor resistor.

Recommendation/Instructions:
Inspect the connection at the blower motor resistor. Replace the blower motor resistor and any terminals in the female part of the connector that show evidence of arching or corrosion. The replacement connector and terminals are listed below.

Part Number 15306069, Female Connector With Leads. Replace the connector body with leads only if the connector body shows signs of damage. It may be necessary to generate a SPAC case to obtain this connector with leads.
Part Number 12176387, Replacement Female Terminal. This terminal is made of copper-beryllium and can be located in Delphi tray 3 of your Packard kit. Only replace the terminal(s) if the connector body has no evidence of damage.
Replace the blower motor resistor only if it shows signs of arching or corrosion at its terminals.
post back with the results.

The problem you describe could be the blower motor failing when the motor heats after initial operation. Also I have seen blower motor resistors that are pulling slightly high amperage cause a similar complaint.
