2006 Chevy Cobalt strut "leakage"

My dealer mechanic claims that the fluid I and the tire salesman have seen on the left front strut is NOT strut oil leakage, but that the strut is "sweating lubricant." Is that possible?

There is no "popping" or "clicking" noise when driven at all speeds. Car drives fine. Problem (if it really is one) was discovered before new tires were put on the car. the picture doesnt show a good enough view.

is the fluid around the seam wehre the two parts of the strt slide inside eachother or somewhere else? that is the only place where leakage woudl occur if the strut is leaking.

The seal above the shaft does not have any kind of residue on it that I can see or feel. The shaft only shows some kind of residue when extended--as when up on a rack. The dealer's mechanic claims that strut leakage is a massively obvious event. Again, no driving issue so far.

So, is there such a thing as "sweating lubricant"?

if its sweating its leaking.

a little bit of fluid is ok. as long as it isnt pouring down the strut.
