Probably, but you will need to use the intake manifold that worked with the Vortec heads, they had different intake mounting bolts than the pre-96 engines. But then, the newer intake might not work with the older ECM. You could be dealing with a big can of worms here.

Engine Performance problem
1997 Chevy Cheyenne 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 210000 miles

I have a 1997 Chevy truck 6cyl but I want to change out engine and transmission with a 350 engine. I perfer to shop around to find my parts but I am not sure what size transmission would fit the 350 engine. Also since the engine and transmission is being changed out do you recommend the drive shaft and torque converter be changed out as well. Thank you anything info would be helpful.

a 350 from the same year or a 1996, no lower though with the same type of fuel injection should bolt right in. You could use the same trans just woul dhave to change the torque converter.

is it possible to swap a 4.3 V6 out of an 1991 Chevrolet Cheyenne with a 305 V8 without changing anything in the wiring harness? Long wheel base, single cab 2 wheel drive. It is NOT a vortec engine.

yes you can change it but you'llneed to change computer as well as exaust manifolds and possible exaust and switches in the engine. you'll also have to make sure it's a tbi unit and not something else.

You will certainly have to change the wiring harness along with the computer and other things already mentioned.

you might need some exaust work and watch the fan to radiatorclearance. But also make sure you get another V-8 with TBI and then the computer as well.....

So i am about to pull the engine out of my truck. I have disconnected everything and removed the front clip.
I want to pull the engine with the transmission but i was wondering if i could also leave the transfer case connected?
i ask because it is a miserable day out side (rain and cold) and i do not want to be under the truck all day trying to get to the tcase/transmission bolts, with mud falling in my face (I pressure washed under there the best i could but mud likes to go everywhere).
Thanks,
Brad
