1991 Chevy Cheyenne shift problems

Transmission problem
1991 Chevy Cheyenne V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

trans shifts from 1st to 2nd but when it shifts to third it goes to neutral instead, if you let off accelerator it drops back to 2nd. any ideas

Hello .. thanks for the donation .. much appreciated Sounds like the third gear clutches are burned out inside the transmission .. you will need to have it stripped down and rebuilt i'm afraid !! Hope this helps
