1967 Chevy Chevelle hei

If it ran fine before you changed the distributor, then it's got to be a small problem. If you have spark and put in a NEW distributor cap then you shouldn't have a crossfire. You may have crossed a couple of wires. the firing order on those is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. #1 is at the 11:30 position on the cap. Tha is looking from the drivers SEAT. then teh distributor turns CLOCKWISE. #1 is the front cylinder on the drivers side and it is left bank 1-3-5-7 Right bank 2-4-6-8 This should take care of it.

My timing was set as you said. I still have the problem. I even got new wires and set it as you said. Still have the problem. I took the hei out and put back the points. Car runs great. This is the 2nd hei. I am going to leave the points in. I need to use the car. Mallory Hei must not be any good.

If you still have the mallory hei instructions see if it says it need s 12 or 9 volts to run right. If you are putting the points back in and using stock connections, the voltage drops to 9 volts or so when it is running. This maybe the problem with the mallory. It may need more voltage like a stock GM hei does. If so you'll need to run a new wire to it to give you the voltage you need when running.

the advance rate must be off..they come with heavy springs to compensate for performance engines...the are not out of the box ready!!!change to lighter advance springs and you will be a happy camper..takes some tinkerring with to get right...the springs are under the rotor..you will see them..dont lose them..
