1967 Chevy Chevelle fuel

I dropped a 350 in a 67 chevelle. I have an in line glass bulb so i can see if its getting fuel. it starts up and runs as long as I keep pushing the gas pedal but as soon as I stop it dies I checked under the hood and I see that the fuel bulb is empty it has a brand new fuel pump its mechanical why does it do this the last time this happened it was because I was having an electrical problem with a power wire from the ignition switch tot he distributor I have a msi distributor I think thats what its called not real sure but the distributor doesnt need a coil So is it an electrical issue? or is it something else

if your glass bulb is empty then so is your car b probably. the best thing to do is get a gallon gas can and run a line to the fuel pump. see if the engine will start. if it does then you have a blockage from the tank to the pump. If it doesn't then teh fuel pump isn't working. sometimes the pump wasn't proprely nstalled and it wears it out or the lobe on the cam that operates the pushrod for the pump wears out and then the pump won't work because there is nothing to push it open. if you aren't getting fuel pull the plate on the outside of the engine and pull the rod out. if it is worn out on the other end by the cam then it's probably the cam is shot. However you can mount an electric fuel pump on in it's place instead of replacing the camshaft.... YOu will need a blockoff plate for the engine though so you don't leak oil all over the place.
