1990 Chevy Celebrity advice plz

i have a 1990 chevy celebrity when going to take off from a stop light the car stalls then it will take off, the car will backfire and die hard to start it after it dies, i hvae asked my uncle a mechanic what he thought it was he said the oxygen sensor.... im about to change the fuel filter and the oxyen sensor then i will et back to u guys on if things have changed and whats going on after i do this little work if u have any advice it would be greatly appreciated... thanks alot Chris
