1989 Chevy Celebrity Fuel Soaked Air Filter

Hello,
I have a odd problem with my 89 Chevy Celebrity V6 2.8. The car was idling fine, then all of a sudden it died and I smelled fuel. I let it sit for a while and tried to start it again. I smelled fuel and stopped trying. After opening the hood and smelling raw fuel, I noticed a spot of gas on the floor. After following my nose, I took off the aif filter cover only to find it with an inch of fuel on the bottom and the filter completely soaked.

Needless to say I towed the car back to my house and will search for the cause of the fuel pouring out of the TB into my air filter housing.

Do you have any ideas as to what could have caused this?

Blown fuel pressure regulator.They went out on those cars a fair amount, and if the car sat with key on, could fill the intake from the vacuum line

Thank you so much Jack, I will check that out. I guess over time the diaphragm goes bad in those regulators. Do you have any idea as to how much the regulator costs? I have seen then go for over $100! (I only paid $250 for the car last year!)

Oh, where exactly is the regulator located?

Thats about right price wise. It is located on the fuel rail, under the upper plenum of the intake

Thank you again! I would like to buy the part ahead of time because I'm sure that even by chance thatits not the problem (I am not doubting you in any way!), it will need to be replaced anyway since it is prone to failure. Does this look like the correct part to you?

As you can see, both parts look completely different (not to mention a $60 price difference! Top picture is the cheaper. Thank you for your help!

Excellent! I will let you know what I find when I have a look tonight.

I need to get this thing fixed! It is suppose to snow a little and I am driving my supercharged 04 Mustang GT to work. 370 RWHP + SNOW + Summer Tires = BAD SITUATION! Not to mention she has never seen snow!

Thank you so much Jack! You were absolutely correct! I pulled the vacum tree off of the top of the throttle body, turned the key and fuel shot out of the vacum line!

You were also correct with the picture. The new valve is on its way (along with new upper intake gaskets and TB gasket).
