The car starts fine at times and other times when trying to start the car, the starter spins but the starter does not engage with the flywheel? Solenoid?
This happens randomly as I tried to see if there was a loose wire but all wires appear OK. Seems like the shift lever is not engaging with the flywheel as the starter motor merely spins away?

Your starter overrunning clutch is slipping-don't bother with the brushes, get a new one and you'll be good for the next 10yrs
