I have a 1998 Cavalier coup, 115,000 miles. When I brake at slow speeds (usually in 2nd gear or lower) I feel and hear a clicking sound in the brakes, almost like something is spinning or getting caught. I've also noticed that when this happens at night my headlights flicker slightly. I've had the brakes completely replaced about 5,000 miles ago (admittedly long overdue); the mechanic (granted, it was at Monro Muffler) didn't see anything. I'd love to hold on to this car for as long as possible, but this noise makes me very nervous. Any insight is much appreciated! :D

No reason you can't double your milage. Don't let these problem stop you from driving this car. Repair is cheaper than replacement. Don't take your car to the chains, independent is preferred, dealer is next IMHO. Sounds like a wiring problem on the headlights...? Why it is in conjuction with the lights I'm not sure. The noise may just be the pad moving in the caliper. Have it checked out for peace of mind if nothing else.

Thanks so much for such a quick reply! I will definitely find a reputable local independent mechanic... I always did feel a little "iffy" going to the chains for anything more than an oil change. And I never thought about the possible wiring issue. Thanks again!
