i lowered my driver side window and now it wont go back up. it has happened in the past month but toggling the up/down button has always worked before. now i hear a faint clicking in the door. my switch in behind the shifter on the console. i removed it to inspect it for a burnt smell or discoloration, it is fine. the passenger side works. before i invest in a switch or relay or motor i thought you might be able to shed some light on this matter. thank you, steve rossi

It's hard to tell without a test light to check circuits. but try this. Turn the key on, turn the headlamps on, then try to operate the window. if the headlamps dim a little while you move the switch chances are it needs a window motor...if they don't dim I'd go for the switch. Do you have a test light around ?

This guide should help us.

I have a 2004 Chevy Cavalier, Automatic Transmission, Approx. 70,000 miles and its a 4 cyl.

My driver side window will not go up or down. All other windows will though. Could it be the fuse?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have power windows it sounds like the motor for the drivers side window needs to be replaced. I had the exact same problem with my 04 Cavalier.

The power window on the drivers side went down no problem but now it won't go back up. The passenger side is ok. What do I need to check?

Hi:
What you need to do is remove the door panel and check for power to the motor. If you're not getting power to the motor when the switch is in the up position, replace the switch.

My Power windows are not working. It started with when I hit the drivers side switch the window would open but not go back up all the way. I would have to hit the switch at lease 10 times over an 30 min..
The same thing started on the passenger side. Now it takes days to close it. Is it a bad switch or Window motor?

Welcome to the forum, feel of the power window circuit breaker in the fuse box, when trying to operate the window, is the breaker hot to the touch? Intermittent window operation and a hot circuit breaker, makes me think the window motor is faulty. I'd still want to check the circuits.

Hi - my power windows stopped working completely (before this, sometimes they'd close all of the way...) recently. I have heard that it could be a motor problem and/or hydraulics. Any ideas?

Passenger side window only goes up a tiny amount then won't move again for 5-10 minutes and then only goes up that same tiny amount again. Drivers side window works perfectly. What could be the problem there?

That's most likely a bad window motor but it might be sold as part of the regulator anyway.

Thank You! I'll give that a try! It's been really strange as the circuit breaker will cut out and not allow the drivers side to work either! Frustrating! I'll get a new one ordered and get back to you as to how it worked! Thanks again!! Sas!

I was wondering how you could find out if the motor on the rear passenger window is good or bad? There is power to it but is not going up or down. Would the motor need to be replaced or could it be something else that could cause it to stop? Every so often you would press the switch and it would go up or down. Thank you for your help.

it could be the motor or a cable broke. it is robably an assemby so you would have to replace everything anyhow.

When I try to push the window up by hand, it feels like there is something catching the window and not allowing it to go back up.

you would have to pull the door panel off to see if there is soemthing binding the cable . your motor may be bad an dnot much you can do about it except disconnect the linkage to shove it up then put duct tape to hold it in place while you get another window motorregulator.but it may be something else besides the motor so you should either have it checked .

Interior problem
2000 Chevy Cavalier 4 cyl Automatic 180000 miles

Hello,
The other day i went to close my power sunroof and it didn't go down all the way. it's up abit an inch.. One side seems to be sitting alittle higher than the other if that is the problem. I tryed putting it back up and down and it goes up an inch and down an inch if that. Sometimes it seems the sunroof doesnt even move. Could it be a broken rail? bad motor? i hope its not expesive.. What do you think it could be? Could i do anything to check see what it is? It goes in tuesday to get it looked at but if i can try myself i will..

Thanks
Kevin

Most likely the regulator (mechanisim that window rides on) is binding.

About all you can do is try spraying silicone on tracks and try to free up mechanisim.

They will have to remove headliner to get to mechanisim.

My driver side windo will not go up or down. It will move about an inch at a time if you wait a few minutes between trys. I have looked inside the door and I don't see anything binding or broke. Do you think this is an electrical issue or a window regulator issue?

Hi,
I was recently in a car accident with my cavalier. I hit a tree. Did some damage to my front end, headlight/fender area, hood. My power windows on both sides, driver & passenger front don't work. They stopped working (after the accident). I am still able to drive the car. I told the insurance adguster I thought it was just coincidental so he didn't record it as any damage, however, I was told it might be possible the windows were damage on impact. I have not heard from tne insurance company yet and just want to make sure before I reopen the claim. What do you think? Is it possible and should I persue this repair it with the rest of the damage?
Thank you for any insight or advise.

I would add the power windows to the list, it is more than likely that the accident caused the problem, even if it is just a fuse.

My power windows in my 1999 Cavalier Z24 convertible don't work at times. DOesn't seem to be the window motors...Sometimes the drivers window can be lowered, then it won't go back up, I get no noise, nothing. Sometimes it happens on the passenger window, then they start working. I also noticed (once) a gauge light on for no apparent reason (anti-theft light I think) when I started the car and stayed on while I drove, had nothing to do with any engine gauges. The next time I started the car, this guage light was off...My battery was just tested and is fine.

Check for 12V at the window switch. It is also possible the limit switch is at fault, in which case you would have to remove the interior door panel and check it, also look at the regulator for binding/loose bolts.

If you have disconnected the battery recently, yo may have to reset the anti-theft system. Check your owners manual.

I have a 1998 Z24 Chevy Cavalier, 84,000 miles, 2.4 liter engine. I have automatic windows, but my driver side window does not always go up and down. Initially, I can make it go down, but when I try to make it go back up, it will only go about an 1/2 inch at a time every several minutes. If I physically push the window up, I can usually move it several inches at a time. It almost seems as if the motor has to "recharge" itself before it will go up and down and it's been getting worse. Is this a problem with the motor or something else? My passenger window works, but at times seems slow. Any help would be appreciated!

Sounds to me youre power window motor is starting to wearout, Soon it will just crap out, Usaully when the motor starts to weaken then its like a warning sign, Also I would take a look at youre window trackings, Could need some grease inside the tracks,
Also make sure youre battery and charging system is work properly. Fully charged.
Good Luck.

Interior problem
1994 Chevy Cavalier Front Wheel Drive Automatic 150000 miles

Manual window rolls up crooked, it seems like something is maybe missing. Do you know of a online diagram or picture of what parts and pieces should be inside?

Hi:
I'm sorry, but I don't know of any such web pages. It sounds like the glass is coming off track. Have you already removed the door panel? If so, what happens when you roll the window up?

If you need a picture of the parts, you may want to consider a manual for the car. It may be helpful.

Let me know about the above listed questions.
