I would have to say that there is serious engine damage already done with the sounds you are discibing, That is why it is important to check your oil at least at every fill of gas, chances are depending on the miles put on in 2 months your car is using some oil and that is way to long to go without checking it sure hope you the best with you and your car but it sounds like the writing is on the wall.

I got my first ever break fluid flush 4 months ago and the shop told me a month ago when I took in for a oil change that it needed another break fluid flush. My dad thinks they are scaming me. On a 2004 cavalier how often are you supposed to get break fluid flushes done?

How did they determine that? Did you tell them you already had it done?

They may be just looking at the mileage and assuming it has never been done. They make test kits to test the fluid but I doubt they used one.

I had it done at this place less than 5 months ago they tested it they said and then when they did oil change a month ago they tested again said I needed done again . I called the Chevy dealership and they laughed they said no way you only need one done every 50,000 miles or 4 years.

Yes, I agree. Under normal conditions this could not happen. There is one way for brake fluid to get ruined in a very short time and that would be if the cover was left off and it was open to the air because brake fluid is hydroscopic meaning it sucks moisture out of the air like a sponge. If you leave a can of brake fluid with the cap off overnight, it will be junk in the morning but if your system was capped and closed, the fluid will be fine.

i have a question as of yesterday i start hearing this rattile noise when i am stopped at a light or a sign not when i am driving ---- it sound like it is coming from the back of my car i did just recently got an oil change like 2 weeks ago ---what should i do ? can it be something loose?

It sounds like an exhaust heat shield or exhaust hanger may have came loose.

i have had a similar problem and found it was the antenne coming loose and rattling upon slowing or stopping. check it out.

In late november i had my oil changed at the dealership. Last week i noticed smoke coming from under my hood. i popped the hood and discovered that there was no oil cap on the oil thing. i called the dealership and they came out to where i was and put a cap on it and found my cap down in the engine. they drove it back and put more oil in it. Now my check engine light is coming on and it smells like burnt rubber outside of my car. it is throwing a p0507 RPM high code. it is idling at 1/2 of a rpm. it goes up to almost 1 rpm when i put the defrost on. when i have my defrost on it sounds funny. any ideas? is it the dealers fault? Thanks for any help you can give me. the check engine light came on when i had to wait along time at the bank and i was in park. after i had the diagnostics put on it the check engine light went off. is this anything to worry about? any ideas on what it could be?

The smell is most likely the oil on the exhaust sytem. As far as the noise with the defroster on. that setting turns on the a/c, so what you are hearing is most likely the a/c compressor running and the PCM turns the idle up to compensate for the drag on the engine, albeit 1000 rpms is way too high.Have the PCM cleared and drive it to see if th esame code comes back, if it does, get back to me

I have a 2003 chevy cavlier coupe, ecotec engine.
After an oil change the other day from my employers car repair, I notice a weird noise every once in a while when I turn or come to a stop. It sounds like its coming from the front. I would describe the noise as a draining,bubbling, grinding noise. Any ideas what it could be? Will be taking it back to the car repair.

2003 Chevy Cavalier Manual 50000 miles

Accidentally poured oil down the dipstick tube, filled the tube most of the way up (cannot get the dipstick even 1/4 of the way into the tube anymore). I'm unsure what to do as I doubt it's safe to turn on to take it into a shop anywhere. Please help!

Don not start the vehicle. You risk creating too much internal pressure that may damage the engine block. Raise the vehicle. Get under the the vehicle with a large drain pan, and remove the drain plug from the oil pan. The oil pan is the one under the passenger seat.

will not shift into drive , motor accelerates when push on gas peddel but will not shift into drives , shifter slides between neutral and drive position, motor sounds rough around drivebelt, changed tranaxle fluid and filter, and seal drained coolaint replaced with new ,changed thermostat drained oil , replaced with new oil and filter

Did you have any issues before the transmission oil was drained or in other words when did your concern occur? Are you sure you have enough transmission fluid inside the transaxle if so, exactly how did you check the fluid level? Answer my questions and get back to me, TY

The same thing , not shifting as if in second gear but motor revs with throtal pressed. Fluid touches top line in the hex marks. The fluid was burnt and had some type of debries in bottom of drain pan. After these changes it clunks hard when droped in drive but test drive proves no drive gear , and no power up incline in second gear and then stalls from RPM raised for a short period of time runing the motor.Thank You for your seguestions ,

It sound like you have a problems with the transmission. Most transmission fluid levels are check with the engine running at operation temperature and the vehicle parked on a level surface.
Really the only other things that could cause this is a electrical issue or mechanical failure in the transmission. I'm leaning toward transmission on this one especially if there was debri in the oil pan.

I had my oil changed today and the lube tech informed me that i had a big leak possibly a crankshaft seal? i am a single mother could someone please tell me what this means and how much it will cost?

There are two crankshaft seals, front and rear. The rear seal would be expensive to repair because you must remove transmission to get to it.
The front seal is a lot less expensive to change, because it is easier to get to.

Find out where the leak is coming from, if rear (or front) seal it will eventually have to be changed.

Bad oil leaks will not only cost you oil, but the oil leak MAY work its way to the exhaust system and the POSSIBILITY of fire is real.

Take the car to a trusted ASE certified mechanic and have them isolate the location of the leak.
It could also be an oil pan, oil pressure sender etc.

Stalls when in idoll 1997 chevy cavalier. I am thinking it is the timing because I just had the fuel injection system flushed and an oil change. But then I went online and noticed many people suggesting many things. My mechanic wants to do a fuel injection diagnostics test but he just flushed the it so that does not make sense to me. I noticed someone else had the same problem a few years back and I wish I could contact him here to find out what the problem was. He was signed on as ABWEG001. you have to mail other members. try cleaning your throttle plate on both sides and iac hole with choke cleaner then check fuel pressure with a gauge auto parts rent it.

What do you recommend besides an oil change to get this car ready to drive? Has new tires, battery and front rotors. 13yrs. old with 17K miles. Hardly ever used.

if the car has been sitting for some time, open the gas cap and smell the gas, if it has a varnish smell then would suggest fuel stabilizer and cleaner. This will help clean the fuel system. When a cra sits for a long time the gas will start to go bad, that is the varnish smell. If the car runs ok then would just put the cleaner and new gas in it. check all the rubber hoses, sometimes they dry rot and get brittle. make sure all the fluids are checked and filled.
