Electrical problem 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 27800 miles

My car was making a weird but fairly faint high-pitched squealing/squeaking noise anytime I was moving, seemed most prominent around 35-45 mph, which stopped if I even touched the brakes or cut the wheel even slightly to the left. Then one morning, the noise was gone, but the blinkers don't work at all. When I 'turn on' the blinkers, there's no clicking noise, no flashing light either internally or externally, no response at all. Fuse seems fine. Ideas? Also, the car has intermittently had issues with the speedometer and tachometer getting "stuck" and registering varying reading/speeds much higher than average. That problem might only last a day and resolve the next time I crank up . . . or it might last a week or more and the gauges seem to almost 'deflate,' meaning that the needle is a little lower each day until they return to normal. Do I need Holy Water?

lol, your first problem, is that you'll need to replace the "flasher fuse" which is usually a silver round or yellow, black rectangular plastic fuse usually located under the dash next to the steering column or in the fuse box itself. your other problem with the speedometer, youll need to check the connection of the vehicle speed sensor or you may have to replace it. they are usually located right on the transmission

at last and finally, your axles may be at fault, over the years the cv joints be come pitted and loose causing them to bounce back and forth, making a vibration in the steering wheel. they will need to be inspected/replaced also

I'm assuming you have tried replacing bulb. check yellow wire with t/s on and see if it 'gets power if it doesn't check to make sure black wire grounds it can be a bad socket if no power it may be the multi function switch

I have a 2002 cavalier 4 dr that the left rear turn signal and brake light quit working. Noticed when flasher started working twice as fast as it should. Replaced bulb with proper part and no change. Was told it was probably the turn signal/ light switch. Replaced that. Still no turn signal or brake light. Only thing that works is the marker light. Right side is all working. Where do I go from here ?

Does the high mount brake lamp work? The rear turn and brake lamp use the same bulb filament, just not at the same time. Did you check for voltage anywhere, use a test light. Did you try pushing in on the bulb a little, to see if makes good contact, with either the brake or turn signal on?

At the left rear, when activated, the yellow wire is voltage, check for voltage. The black wire is ground, check that also. The brown wire is for tail lamps.

The problem could be in the wiring circuit, somewhere. Let us know about voltage and ground.

Sometimes when checking the turn signal switch, You can use a jumper on the proper circuits and make them turn signals dance. That way you will know the wiring circuits are ok.

I had checked voltage at the socket. Marker light had power, had good ground, but nothing out of the brake/ turn signal. High mount light worked and everything on the right side works. Turns out the more I read online about people with this same problem, the more the socket itself was the answer. I unplugged the socket from the wiring harness and checked power again. All good. then switched the right side socket for the left side and it works fine. Now I have to get to a Chevy dealership to hopefully get new socket as none of the parts stores carry this part. thanks for your help.

I saw a turn signal lamp socket at rockauto.com, about 37 bucks and change. That sounds a little steep to me? I haven't done a web search for that part? Have you thought about checking your local salvage yard?

Just to add, found some turn signal sockets on ebay, says it fits cavalier. Well less than 20 bucks, check it out.

Hi,
My daughter's 2002 Chevy Cavalier is having a strange problem. Her rear turn signals, brake lights, and rear hazard lights do not work. All the lights stopped working at the same time. We have checked the bulb and fuses and there is no problem with those. Any ideas. Thanks.

Disable air bag will need to remove steering wheel need a puller. Also if tilt steering will need another tool. May need to loosen column mount bolts to gain room to pull wires out of column.

My driver side front turn signal is not working. I cannot see how I access that area to change it. The rear bulbs were easy to access.

First, pop the hood. Remove the black radiator cover by prying up the 5 or 6 plastic pins holding it down. Then unscrew the two bolts holding down the headlight assembly. You should be able to maneuver the headlight/corner light assembly out now (they are connected). If not, take a long screw driver and put it in the hole whenere the corner light meets the headlight. You will see where they snap-on together. Un-snap them with the screwdriver and now they will definately come out from the car. Twist the light socket from the housing and replace the bulb.

Electrical problem
2002 Chevy Cavalier 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic
----------------------------------------------------------------
Both tail lights work when the headlights are turned on. However, the left turn signal, hazzard flasher, and brake light do not work on the driver side.

Everything works fine on the passenger side. Also, when the left turn signal is activated, the front flashes very fast but nothing at the rear.

Please help!!

My blinkers do not work correctly when the turn signal is used. Sometimes they start to blink and then just stop. Others times they don't come on at all. Sometimes they work just fine. They work correctly when the emergency flashers are activated.

If both fuses are good, consider replacing the flasher unit. If that does not solve the issue, the problem may lie within your multi-function switch.

Turn signals work at times other times dont work. This seems to occur when the temperature outside is hot the turn signals fail to operate. I have changed all the bulbs already and the problem still occurs.

intermittent issues are hard to fix since they aren't always inoperative. most likely the flasher unit is bad though

The flasher sits above the gas pedal behind a small, black panel . The panel is held on with one star bolt and is situated between the gas panel arm and the bottom of the plastic molding that sits below the steering column. the flasher should be be green and clipped to a small, cube shaped harness and attached to the inside wall by two plastic clips. You will need to use a very small flat head to pry the two pieces apart. After removing the part you can verify that you have the correct replacement by comparing units, often times without opening the packaging on the replacement. Secondly you can verify that you did remove the flasher by putting your keys in the ignition, turning the on and then using your turn signals or hazards.
