There were no issues with car,it was souding and running fine. Yesterday, while leaving my home, I put the car in reverse and then it would not go into drive or any other gear. The gear shift would just slide through the gears without catching. I pulled up the emergency brake, had it towed to AAMCO. AMMCO contacted me, told me they would have to pull the transmission out. Labor cost $1285. I called him back 10 min later and stated I wanted to think about it. Perhaps it would be better just to get a new car. He said that would be stupid. Said he already had his guys lifting the transmission. An hour later he called back and siad there was a steel shaft that was eroding and putting metal shavings through out my transmission and radiator. He would need to replace everything. Total charge $2489.50. My online search shows more than likely the cable snapped and that there are repair kits that can be purchased to fix the problem. Your thoughts?

Sounds like a scam, your best bet is to get another quote from a smaller company that cant afford the bad reputation if they screw you over.
