2003 Chevy Cavalier axels and alignment

Last year, my wife wrecked our Cavalier. From the accident, the lower control arm was broken and the driver's wheel was wedged against the firewall. I pried it out and replaced the control arm, the axel, the rim and the tire among other things. I wanted to get the alignment done, but ran out of money. However, I've put about 10,000 miles on the car since then, and the car drives straight on the road. The only problem is that the car shifts a little to the left when the tranny shifts over around thirty. The axel that I replaced is going bad on the inner joint. It was a new axel not a re-build. I was wondering if you think that any possible alignment issues that might be associated with the shifting could be putting strain on the axel and causing it to pre-maturely fail - or if I might have just gotten a defective axel.
