upon start up of my 01 chevy cavalier it idles as normal.... but when put into drive and accelerating has begun the Rpm's never drop back down to normal. it seems as if it "sticks". The only way to get the rpms back down is to put it back in neutral at a stop to get them to come back down.... My thoughts are that it could be more than likly a bad throttle cable or the throttle body it self, possibly even a vacuum leak. any ideas what would cause this?

I think you are right, check TB and cable, vacuum leaks would be constant, also check the IAC.
