Just recently, I had my brakes lock up on me. I accelerated to pass someone going about 25 mph and when went to brake quickly after veering over, the brakes wouldn't work. The car made a bit of whining noise and just kept on going and the brakes would not give. I pulled over and put it in neutral (while it was still going) to stop it and it suddenly went into reverse - with no brakes. Finally I had to put it back into drive and pull around the corner and just cut off the engine. When I re-started, it worked fine again - I tried to recreate it on a side road and it wouldn't do anything. Could this be a brake problem, transmission slip, etc? No warning lights came on at all.

When the brake problem first arose, was the brake pedal hard and you had absolutely "no" brakes at all? OR, did the pedal go to the floor? Please advise.
