Transmission problem
1999 Chevy Cavalier 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I have swapped in another motor and transmission. Have a problem with the passenger side. Looking at the old trans and comparing with the new, I have a hard time believing that the inner spline sticks out like it does.
And with the trans installed, engine not running, I can shift thru and see the linkage on the trans changing. However, in park, I can rotate the wheels. Is this right? Shouldn't the wheels lock in park? Is there an adjustment? I haven't run the engine yet because I sure do no want to wreck something . One picture shows it installed on the new trans, The other shows the spline sticking out of the old one. Is there a shield I am missing?

if the wheels are off the ground they will turn in park. set one wheel on the ground and see if they still rotate.

i can see the difference in the output shafts.however i don,t think that will make a difference there is room enough in the axle for both style transmissions.
