Fan not coming on at all when up to temperature (2.2 Engine)

-Turn on A/C nothing
-Fuse is OK
-Swapped relays, nothing
-Disconnect ECT connector, fan did not come on
-Tested ECT Sensor and resistance appears to be in range for temperature;

-Have not tried to run jumpers to fan motor. Is there anything else I should check? How do you remove fan/fan motor to replace?

Hi atom1285,

The fan motors should be tested first if they do not come on after the fuses and relays have been checked.

To remove the fans, you have to remove the upper hose which requires a little coolant to be drained.

Our database is under maintenance now so I am not able to get more information now. Once the site is up I will get the info and relay them to you.

Ran jumpers from battery to fan motor. Nothing; sounds like its time to replace the fan. Went to a Pull-A-Part yard this morning; looked for fan in about 20 Cavaliers and all were gone; looks like this is a pretty common failure based on that

For the age and mileage, most fans should be gone or ready to fail anytime.

All makes do have this problem, some lasting longer whereas some even fails at an earlier mileage.

If the scrap yard does not have it then you would have to try after market parts.

Found motor at local auto parts store and replaced yesterday. Took a while to get at the bottom bolt and move a few things out of the way , but was able to replace without having to remove too much else. And now it works...woohoo :)
