I have a 98 Cavilier 2.2 it just recentley started making a noise were the radiator resivore is. I know the S- belt has never been changed it i know its bad. I have taken it to a repair shop and they claimed it might be the Timing chain on it. AHH the car starts and runs fine its just the wishping noise. When the engine idles up it stops and when its at idle u can hear it. To me it sounds like a Exhaust leak were it makes that wishping noise but i cant smell any exhaust on the inside of the car. Like i said the car runs fine its just that noise im hearing its quite aggrovating. I just recieved a call from the shop they said the Idle tensioner is loose. ???????????? i need to know whats up

Remove your drive belt and see if the noise goes away. if it does look at the alternator, idler pulley, A/C compressor, ect.

ok well im back again just had the Tension Idler replaced and the S-belt replaced it stopped untill today. The same noise from the same spot. Could it be the Timing belt going out or is it a lifter. The car runs good no hesitations and its starts like a champ. The car runs fine except for the noise. Its a bit Irritating. When u come to a stop u can barely hear it. When u excelarate u can hear it till it comes to a certain RPM then it stops. Any clues now ?
