One of my fusible links to the starter has gone bad. My question: is this a generic part or specific to the make and model of my car?

Just find the correct amperage to it from the book,go get it then splice it in, that's it. Its a wire 4x smaller than the wire it protects. When it sees an overload it will break and create an open circuit.
