1997 Chevy Cavalier clicking sound

I would try a jump first
and if it worked and the car start
then the starter is OK
and I will check the charging system and alternator +the battery
but if you had the battery light on that’s an indication most of the time its the charging system
so have the alternator checked
after you have checked all your fuses of course
if jump don’t work I would say its the starter no good
