I have a 1987 Chevy Cavalier Z24 with 183823 miles on it. I bought the car brand new. At approx. 174600 miles, the car experienced a loss of power/compression. My gas mileage went from 26 mpg to 13 mpg. Trying to engage the passing gear is ineffective. I replaced the spark plugs, wires, 02 sensor, MAP sensor and accompanying hoses, added HEAT to the fuel system twice and replaced the fuel filter, with no success. At 181500 miles, I replaced the 3 ignition coil packs and that corrected the problem, for awhile. At approx. 183400, the problem returned. The car does not show any trouble codes and the check engine light is not on. I have not replaced the timing chain/belt. Does the computer have to be reset when the coils are replaced?
