Hello everyone,

I am having electrical problems with my 1982 Chevrolet Caprice Estate. The engine is a 305 and it has several hundred thousand kms for mileage.

The problem is that I have no ignition electrical power (ie: battery won't turn the engine over) and no lights on the gauges or radio when the ignition is in the on position. However I have a new battery which provides adequate power for the headlights and interior lights. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

So if I understand you, the lights and radio do work when the key is not in the ignition? Or nothing works ever? If no power ever, check for bad battery cables, pay particular attention to the negative cable were it attaches to the block! Use a good jumper cable attach an end to the block and the oter end to the neg post, then see what happens...

I will not be able to look up your particular car, it's to vintage! You can check for blown fuses first, but I think it's the ignition switch, not the tumbler but the plastic switch! Or a blown Accessory fuse...
