1995 Chevy Caprice Car starts hard

When it finally starts, are you getting black smoke from the exhaust? Also, is the check engine light on?

yes, there is black smoke and the check engine light is on and stays on.

The black smoke indicated the engine is getting too much gas and not enough air. A few sensors could cause this. If the check engine light is on, take the car to a nationally recognized parts store (auto zone...) and have them scan the computer. Most will do it for free, and then we'll know exactly what is causing the problem.

Well I couldn't get it to read on a scanner but I did find a minor problem. I found that the intake manifold was leaking oil in the back all over the top of the transmission. So I changed the intake gasket. I also pulled the throttle apart while i was doing so to clean it. The idle air control module was trashed. It had a layer of carbon on it an 1/8 inch thick. Put a new one in and also changed the throttle position sensor (just for giggles) Problem seems to be fixed. It starts the first time it truns over now and no more hesitation. The service engine soon light is out and hass been for about 200 miles. ( I waited to reply to see if it would stay out for a bit)

Thanks for the advice it got me motivated to do a complete inspection of the engine. I also found a few bad vac hoses. I still have a slight burnt oil smell but hoping it will go away as all the old oil burns off. I reallly appreciate your help and motivation.
