engine idles fine but when put in gear runs rough. replaced spark plugs,wires,and air filter

check your points and timing. then it may be a carb overhaul if those are right. Put vacuum guage on it and see if you have good vacuum-20" at idle is good, 15" would indicate valve or blocked exaust problem. Or a vacuum leak..
