shudder while braking from high speed

The front end of my 2001 Camaro SS shudders when I press the brake pedal at highway speeds (i.e. when slowing down on a highway off ramp). Its gotten to the point where I can see the hood shaking if I brake hard enough.

Replacing the brake pads and rotors (fronts only) reduced the shudder quite a bit but after only 200 miles its just as bad as it was before the pad and rotor replacements. I'm planning to regrease the bolts that the calipers slide on and retorque everything to spec just incase I missed something the first time around.

Any idea what's causing this brake shudder? The only thing that has been resolved with the pad and rotor change is now the steering wheel doesn't shake like it used to when braking. If I need to take this to a shop, is there something specific I can ask them to look at? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

When you hit a bump does the front end bounce a little bit? If so you might try replacing the shocks. Also when is the last time you balanced your tires. I would start with balancing your tires and let us know what you find.

2001 camaro ss, 63,000 miles, 5.7L. Thanks for the reply! I haven't noticed any bounce up front going over dips or bumps. I've had all four wheels balanced a month or two ago when I was getting a vibration at highway speed, problem went away after balancing.

I have noticed the brake shudder goes away if I press the brake harder while its shuddering but maybe that's because the car is slowing (brakes don't shudder when applied at low speed).

Should I just as a mechanic to check my suspension components to make sure nothing is worn or broken and live with the shudder? Anything else I should be looking for?

Mechanic found warped rear rotor. Replaced both rear rotors, no more vibrations!
