Security System on Camaro Z28

1996 Camaro Z28; 60,200 miles. I recently purchased this car from an individual. It seems the security system is highly sensitive. More specifically, if a person walks in front of the car, or the front of the car is parked close to another car/object, the security system goes off (horn honks & lights flicker on & off). Is there any way to reduce the sensitivity of the security system? If not, is there any way to turn it off?
