1995 Camaro 3.4 V6, Manual, 199,000 miles...
Recently, the car has started idling strangely. While sitting, the RPM's will raise and lower slowly, from around 700, up to 1000. The engine runs flawlessly while driving.
In response to the trouble, I cleaned the gummed-up IAC valve and some of the passages leading to it. The K&N air filter has been recently cleaned and recharged; the oil and coolant are relatively new. The battery is fairly new and checks out with the voltmeter, and all the grounds are connected well. I also recently changed the temperature sensor and thermostat to resolve an electric fan issue. The car had an engine replacement early in life by GM mechanics, and the previous owner had replaced the alternator, water pump, and AC compressor.
The other evening, after coming home from a short trip, I noticed the idle would behave strangely while the headlights and park lights were on. I'm not sure how I hadn't noticed it before, but once all the lights were off, the engine idled as it should. I had originally thought it could be the Oxygen sensors, but now I'm starting to suspect the alternator may be the problem...
