What is involved in repairing - 2002 chevy camaro Intake Plenum Gasket repair ? Is this very detailed? can this affect the timing, etc

No affect on timing , not an impossible job for most, just time consuming and spec are required. A manual would be smart:

Well, I took it in because I could smell the antifreeze (burning) The mentioned it was the intake gasket (after doing a pressure test but, after looking at my manual it looks as if the water pump is right in the front vs side. Would it be the intake gasket ?

I don't know I can't see it. Some tell tale waterpump leak signs are a line on the hood where coolant is slung, rusted pulley. The 3.8 motors are more typical of a intake manifold it self going bad from poor design.
