2000 Chevy Camaro Rear end noise

I have a 2000 chevy camaro and there is a noise coming from the rear end, it hapens when i hit bumps and high speeds, basically when i go over 55. I replaced the shocks and the nosie was still there. You can feel it in the floor. Not sure if its the diff or tranny. If I gun it from a stop it doesnt make any noise but if im moving and gun it it rattles. Thanks

there are several things that can cause this noise.but eng trans and differentials, are very uncommon to be the prob.


most likely muffler or convertor is comeing apart on the inside.you can beat on them with a hammer and listen .also grab the exhaust and shake it and listen.

I had a similar problem at 65,000 miles. The person who answered you previously and talked about the Exhaust system/catalytic converter may have the correct answer.

My noise or rattle turned out to be the heat shield on the catalytic converter. It is very hard to detect and it depends on the speed and RPM at the time. If you find that this noise is elusive and hard to tell where it is coming from, this is it!

My problem; Under semi hard acceleration it went away, at highway speeds it went away but at slow speeds or when pulling away from a light or stop sign it would rattle. Mine also made a resonance noise and I could not tell where it was coming from?

Check the heat shield, it could be as simple as bending it away from the converter with a large screw driver.

One more thing, there are two halves of the heat shield that are welded together. My problem turned out to be the top shield that was the rattle and resonance noise but only after they ripped off the bottom shield. Do not make this mistake.
