1997 Chevy Camaro replace of mass airflow sensor

I took my ss Camaro in for a sfety inspection. The mechanic said it needed a new air flow sensor. They replaced it and when I came to pick it up they had put over 70 miles on it. They said they needed to run it at different conditions to reset the sensor. Is this legit or were they out joy riding in my car?

Actually, if they had the battery disconnected, the computer has to go through a relearn sequence and does require the vehicle to be run. 70 miles is a bit extreme, but they may have had trouble with it and were trying.

I guess the bottom line is this. Did they have to drive it, yes, but that does seem like a lot more than is normal.
