Problem started: engine turns will not start1. Checked. had weak fire from coil to distr. no fire from distr to plugs 2,. changed rotor and cap, plugs, ignition coil module in distr and coil then reset timing. Now engine starts idles until it reaches normal operating temperature then dies. what is the problem?

try unscrewing the o2 sensor from the exhaust to remove any back pressure in case the cat converter is plugged. if you have spark, inj pulse and fuel pressure then usually its restricted exhasut especially on this camaro.

remove the oxygen sensor. dont replace it, remove it!! then start engine, this will eliminate back pressure to make sure exhasut is not restricted causing your problem

By removing the o2 sensor, will the car pass smog without it? If there was a faulty EGR vavle, could that cause the loapping, rough running, dying at low idle? what if that is blocked off?

if the egr valve was stuck open or broken (which is common on this engine) then that could cause your problem but a blocked egr could not. you did not explain your original problem correctly. remember i can only give you advice on accurate information. i assumed the engine did not run. most likely if it runs and stalls at idle then egr is going to be your problem.
