1984 Chevy Camaro 6 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 20010 miles

installed shifter cable but keeps slipping out of place when shifting gears is there a clip or pin suppose to hold it?

there should be a slip lock on the cable. it almost looks like a washer with an extra tab.
