Engine Cooling problem
1980 Chevy Camaro V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic
Recently i was driving my car on the highway, when i went to pass a guy, i glanced at my engine temperature and it was as hot as it read, so i immediately pulled over and stopped. So i drove home slow stopping periodically to let the engine cool. I got home and figured it would have been the thermostat doing the problem.
I changed the thermostat and went for a drive, it heated up to redline but held steady (I think the thermostat was rated to high) but was also blowing a ton of white smoke out of the driver side exhaust pipe, the whole time, but not the passenger side. As well as this, when i try to start the engine, it makes the original turn, goes silent for about 5 seconds and then turns over, this happened in moderation before because of the distributor but this was highly excessive.
