power steering dipstick

I have a 1997 blazer LT 4wd .How can I determine the correct reading on the power steering dipstick.When I pull it out its way full on one side and half way on the the other side.Also does it matter which way the writing on the cap is pointing??

go with the lower reading.It does not make a difference on the letter direction.
