no warranty & it won't switch into 4x4

It used to bang occasionally going into 4 wheel drive. Had mechanics look at it a half dozen times, said they couldn't find problem. Now no warranty & it won't switch into 4x4. If I stop, put vehicle in neutral & hit 4hi, both 4hi & 4lo flash then light returns to 2hi. I was told possibly actuator or sensor are probably shot. Is there a reset of any kind anywhere?

Sounds like the actuator isn't completely pulling the transfer case all the out of 4 wheel drive and under load, It's popping out. Hence, the bang which is common. This would also explain both hi and lo lights on at the same time. here are the instruction son how to change the encoder motor out. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what happens.
