We noticed that the coolant level in the Blazer was dropping right after we would fill it up. We just took it to a mechanic where we had the cooling system replaced last year, but they are saying the coolant is leaking from the water pump.

We plan to buy a new car in 6 months and don't want to put more money into it. Can we just continue to refill the coolant and get by?

you are taking your chances by trying to do that.

the bearing in the pump could completely fail.
leaving stranded on the side of the road without any notice.

or the seal could completely fail.
dumping all of the water out.
leaving you on the side of the road.
or
if you didn't notice the water dumped out and kept driving, you could over heat and ruin the engine.
