1998 Chevy Blazer play in steering wheel

I have probable 2 inches of play in my steering wheel. from what i understand its a common problem with the blazers. wheres a good place to start guys?

The First Thing I'd Check Is The Sterring Shaft,Going Down To The Sterring Box Look Clostly At The U Joint On That Shaft. for Looseness, And Rust At Caps . Also Check the Idler Arm And Pitman Arm ,A High Failure Rate On These Trucks ,

Its been like this for a few years. Doesnt seem to be getting any worse. Is it safe to drive until I get the money together to fix it?

Hi, What I Would Do Is Have The Whole Front End Checked Out By Your Mechanic .Then You Will Get A Better Idea.If It's Safe Or Not,Too Drive.
