1996 Chevy Blazer replacing the camshaft position sensor

the camshaft position sensor sits in the distributor
housing. I have the rotor off, the roof of the
distributor housing, but the camshaft position
sensor is snugly sitting between a metal staging
area and the bottom of housing, making it im-
possible to replace the cps. How is this staging area
removed or separated from bottom of the distri-
butor housing? Any helpful suggestions would be
appreciated! Thank you, Joseph

Was a code set? My info from GM states distributor it not repairable. Where you able to purchace a new CPM?
