Engine Mechanical problem
1996 Chevy Blazer 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic 160K miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I replaced the fuel filter and the fuel pressure is at 35 psi. The truck will start but stalls when going up hills or is under load. There is no smell of gas leaking or any other indications there's a gas leak. A local garage believes it's the fuel pump and for $700 they will replace it.

I checked pump prices and I can find the pump for around $70. For the pump and sender unit assembly they want $250. I have replaced pumps before by dropping the tank but I am not sure how easy it will be on the blazer.

First does this sound like a fuel pump problem to you? Can i get away with the $70 pump option? Can you describe the procedure to replace the pump.

its a pretty simple job just like any other vehicle, they were probably using top of the line oem parts not a offbrand, you might want to get a dealer pump as if you dont have the proper amount of comm bars in the pump, and if it has the wrong amount the pump will burn out again and you will be replacing it in a month if lucky.
