This has happened about 4 times since I bought the vehicle two or so weeks ago. When I go to shift the car from Park to any other gear and the gear won't engage immediately, as if it's still in park or neutral. When you give the car gas it takes a few seconds for whatever gear to engage and because of that it tends to be somewhat violent of a shift. I've heard failing transmission to a vacuum problem. Any elaborations?

Oh yea, the original transmission has been replaced about 50k miles ago or so with Serta transmission. Haven't tested to see if it happens after turning the car on and trying to switch immediately into 4WD before attempting to shift into gear, the transmission doesn't slip during normal operation/driving nor does the 4WD seem to have any problem engaging normally either.

sounds like the trans has hard seals. Go to your local auto parts store and get some trans lube and put in it. I would also recommend an trans oil change at this time and look for any large pieces of metal in the pan
