about ready to give up! now, my brake lights stay on and blinkers wont work

replace the multifunction switch. the directional switch controls brake lights and turn signals. try lightly pressing the hazard button while the turn signal is put on left tuen and if the left turn signal starts working replace the turn signal switch(multi function switch) very common for your exact symptoms. hope this helps
