I have the trans pretty out only thing I havent done is remove the exhaust and bell housing bolts. but I cant seem to lower it enough to get to the 4 of the 6 bellhousing bolts. It wont lower much with the back crossmember attached and it looks welded in.

sometimes it's easier to get to those top bolts by laying on the engine and reaching down.

or a really long extension with a universal joint on the socket.

I just went through this in my 1995 z71 4x4.... first put a jack under the trans. unbolt the trans mount from crossmember... then lift the trans and remove the crossmember.

Now i know this will sound stupid but...... next remove the distributor cap. trust me, you'll break it otherwise. Now..... slowly lower that jack under the trans and make sure someone's watching under the hood so you don't destory your distributor. you lower it enough and you will have access to those top bolts..... granted, you'll need a universal socket and a LOT of extensions. that's the only way essentially. good luck!
