A week before this happened I was driving through the rocky mountains in colorado. This engine runs great for its's age. Last sunday night I started the blazer to put it back into the driveway ran fine. Next morning I started it up and the engine ran ruff. I put a scanner on it this weekend and I am getting a code P0302 the misfire for number 2 cylinder. Also the Engine Service Soon Light is blinking with strong smelling exhaust. I disconnected the plug wire checked for spark and I have a spark. Is there a common issue with these 4.3 litre engines that may cause The P0302 code. This engine has been very durable and burns very little oil.

If you pull the #2 plug is it wet or smell like gas? The poppet might be sticking, if you have the spider fuel system? Can you check fuel pressure, does it hold or bleed-off?

The # 2 plug was dry. This morning I switched #2 wire with # 4 at cap and plugs but the same misfirecode for number 2 cylinder. Also I added some chevron techron to see if that poppet is sticking. I can't check fuel pressure but the fuel pump assy was replaced a year ago. Which does meantoo much. Is it possible the distributer cap might have a problem. I used the water method but saw no sparks. Also I read that the catylitic converter could be clogged but this one is not the original.

A misfire is a cylinder that is not putting out power comparable to the other cylinders. Just about anything can cause it. In an earlier post, you said there was spark? Now you have to be sure about the fuel issue.

Ok it's probably time to check the fuel pressure and delivery

Put a new cap in rotor in today because it seemed to be the cheepest electronic possibility but it did not change the engine condition. Chasing parts does tends to be a waist.

I agree about chasing parts. I try to test everything possible before replacing anything.
