Check the fuel pressure fuel pump could be failing, also test the coolant temperature sensor/idle air control valve. These guides will help us fix it

and

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-fuel-system-pressure-and-regulator

Please run down these guides and report back. I hope this will be of some help to you.

Do you hear the fuel pump when you turn key to run-if so check the fuel pressure if its within specs If not check fuel pump fuse and fuel pump relay

i dont think its the fuel pump because you can hear it on when you turn the key to the on position. like i said i need starter fluid to start the car but then it runs fine idling once i put it in gear it hesitates untill i get it over 15 mph then it runs good especially on the highway and every time it goes back down to idle position , about 800rpm and i give it gas it wants to stall unless i play with the pedal. it cranks fine but wont start without a squirt of starter fluid. someone told me it may be one of thesensors but i dont know HELP ME PLEASE

sounds like the vehicle is running extremely rich.

does the black smoke or running problems go away after the vehicle has warmed up or stay all the time?

i would check out the fuel pressure first, get back to me and well see whats wrong.

would definetely be checking for fuel pressure, engine off and engien on. see if its getting too much fuel pressure or the injectors are using too much fuel.

sounds like loss of fuel pressure.... most commonly caused by a bad fuel spider.... (the main injector) these vehicles have 1 main fuel injector, and 6 injector tubes... 1 per cylinder.... these tubes become brittle, and crack.... then leak.... easiest way to check, is remove your upper intake manifold.... then look for any wetness in your ports of the lower intake manifold.... let me know what you find.

Hi:
You need to check fuel pump pressure. Something tells me the pressure is dropping off when the key gets shut. The next time you need to start it, it takes a few seconds to rebuild the pressure.

Here is a how to for checking fuel pressure.

https://www.2carpros.com/dia/test_fuel_pressure.htm

What I need you to pay attention to is when the key is first turned off. I need to know how quickly the pressure drops back to 0 or below 10 PSI.

Let me know what you find and we'll go from there.

I'd check fuel pressure. You need a gage for that. If you have that spider fuel system, it is noted for problems. Hard start, no start after over night sit. The bulletins talk about the poppets sticking.

Once you get it started, does it run and drive ok? My info shows your obd1 so you might be able to check for codes yourself. That might point you in a different direction.

If it is the poppets sticking, you try some seafoam, see if it helps.

Hi, Guys!

I've had this problem before and it cost me a lot so i am being very cautious. Here's the deal my car wont start. Before I would use a starting fluid and it would crank but i had to keep pressure on the pedal. So, I changed the fuel pressure regulator and the car started but then it started to stumble, choking. So, I was told it was the fuel pump. So, got the psi tested and it was at 40 psi. I changed it and the fuel filter still hard starting, idling rough but now the car won't start at all. It sat for three days and i went to start it and it started but I had to keep pressure on the pedal. So, I am totally confused as to what is going on so here are the things I changed.

wires, rotor, distributor, spark plugs was wet from flooding and i cleaned them and put them back in. I changed crank case sensor, fuel injectors was checked with noid light, mapp sensor changed, idle air changed, throttle position sensor changed, except the coil, which was changed like in May four months ago. I also changed the fuel sensor relay.
I also noticed when i was stuck and it let me down i did not hear the ful pump click on. So I banged the tank and it acted like it wanted to turn over but wouldn't even with starting fluid..

I also noticed when the fuel pump was changed the assembly unit hose was a little pinched. So I dont know how much this would effect the psi level. So I bought a new unit but haven't changed it yet.

I know this is crazy but I really want to get to the heart of the matter and solve this problem before I burn the car or push it off a cliff..lol..thanks for your help!

Check your fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge and comeback with the actual pressure readings we start here and also you might want to check if the injectors are pulsing and spraying fuel into the cylinders-

I did check the fuel pressure and it was 40 psi. so, I changed the fuel pump 2 days ago and found a kink in the feeder line hose. The car did not start after severl cranks and I think I flooded the spark plugs as before. I think there are two problem and this is one them. But how or where do I gain access to the fuel line to straighten it out? Or should I buy a new line? The fuel line seems to vanish into the car frame from the gas tank.

Also, the next day the car started on the first click? I was shocked. Could be becaus the plugs were wet and the fuel pressure regulator is dumping or leaking fuel? So, should I change the spark plugs and what about the coil? Is there a way to check it with out a tool to see if it is getting enough spark to the plugs? Thanks!

Hello, if you have that spider fuel system, I'd check fuel pressure, you need a gage for that. You have good spark at the plugs, injector pulse, during cranking?

If the cmfi system is leaking gas, about all you can do is replace the assembly. I'd try to check everything I could, first.

how come I can only use a motor from a 95 in a 95 s10 blazer is there any way around this. I was told once it was because of a extra crank sensor

whoever said there is an extra crank sensor is sadly mistaken... 1994 was a CPI (central port injected) and was changed in 95 to A two-piece Central Sequential Multiport injection (SFI)... I know for a fact a 95, and a 96 will bolt right up.... ive done it... i believe a 97 will work also.... 98 is a totally different setup, and will not work unless you modify your harness to adapt to the 98 harness..

Engine Performance problem
1986 Chevy Blazer 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I have been trying to troubleshoot the problems. The Blazer takes MANY attempts to start-almost like the carb is not getting any fuel. Sometimes we have to prime the carb with starter spray or gas, then must allow to warm up well before taking off. When going up a hill-the vehicle repeatedly dies and takes forever to get to the top. This has become a safety concern. I have changed out the plugs and fuel filter. I want to pinpoint the problem. Could this be a compression and/or fuel pump problem?
I was told that the fuel vacuum line could be the problem but still not sure.

Hi:
It sounds like the fuel pump is bad. Have you had it checked for pressure and volume? That is what I would do. If it's good, then I would check for compression.

Let me know what you find.

Hi, I have a 1998 Chevy Blazer, approx. 66,000 mi., 4 x4. Recently it has been very slow to start. The engine will crank for a bit before starting. Sometimes I have to try a couple times to get it to start. Additionally, sometimes after driving the car, there is a faint gas smell. Any suggestions are appreciated. If this is a expensive repair let me know, I planned to get a new car in the spring, but I may have to move it up! Thanks!
