1994 Chevy Blazer 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a1994 chevy s-10 blazer 4.3 vortec,and the egr valve keeps getting carbon built up on it so it dont work right. what can be causing it to get carboned up? thank you jeff lamott

There's a trick to it-fabricate a screen such as the screen in the faucet tip and use it as a strainer
