I didn't really know what category this would fall under, but I'm sure it is the transfer case. It is stuck in 4-lo. When I try to shift it back into 2-wheel or any other, the shifter itself will shift, but it makes a grinding noise and won't shift out of 4-lo. So, my question is, is there a way to fix this problem, or should I go ahead and replace the transfer case? If I do need to completely replace it, will I need to replace the transmission? As far as driving and shifting 1st, 2nd, 3rd it does fine, but it won't come out of 4-lo, and as you know, you cannot drive one like that. Hope I explained everything ok. I just don't want to have to put more money into this than what I have to. It's actually in very good condition and has a brand new motor, so I'd like to get it fixed without it costing me a fortune.

I would Start with checking the shift linkage. you can remove the shift boot, to check the linkage for any play or loose shifter. If you are able to have it up on a lift then the shift linkage could be checked from underneath.
